The questions are grounded in established responsible-AI frameworks and evidence, including the European Commission’s seven requirements for trustworthy AI and ALTAI, the EU AI Act’s risk levels, the NIST AI Risk Management Framework, OECD AI Principles, ICO guidance and up-to-date behavioural research on AI-human interaction.

The stocktakes were developed by Andy Nobes and Deborah Manning, drawing on experience in AI ethics, law, research, education and organisational learning. They are reflective development tools—not audits, certifications, legal advice or formal assessments of compliance.

Before you begin

You do not need to be an AI specialist. The organisational stocktake is best completed by someone with a broad view of the organisation—or used to support a discussion involving leadership, operational, technical and governance perspectives.

Results reflect the information available to the people completing the stocktake. They are intended to support honest reflection, constructive discussion and proportionate action.
